  •      How Does The Race Night Work?

The race night usually consists of 9 races with eight or ten horses in each race. The first eight races are “Normal Races” where you would be expected to sell each of the horses in each race to an owner prior to the race night. The owner names the horse, jockey and trainer and receives a prize (hopefully sponsored) if their horse wins. Race nine is usually an auction race where each horse is sold to the highest bidder on the night, with a large prize. The prize should be sponsored if possible, if not, up to half the bid takings would be suitable.

The normal running order for the night would be:

  • Races 1 to 4.

  • Interval (maybe with refreshments).

  • Races 5 to 8.

  • The auction race.

  • How Do The Individual Races Work?

  • Each race will have the same format as follows:

  • A quick synopsis or “Tips” will be given out.

  • The TOTE is opened and Punters will purchase tickets for their chosen horse.

  • The race is run and the winner selected.

  • The odds for the race are calculated.

  • The winning ticket holders collects their money.

  • and the owner is presented with their prize.

  • How Much Should I Charge The Race Sponsors?

The simple answer is – As much as you can but it should be enough to cover owners prize.

  • How Much Should I Sell Each Horse For?

It depends on how much you think your customers are willing to spend, but again, as before – as much as you can!

  • How Much Should I Sell The TOTE Tickets For?

The usual fee would be in units of €2 but the initial stake is non refundable, i.e. just the tickets are paid out.

  • What Will I Have To Organise Before The Night?

Apart from the usual things that need to be organised for any function, there are some specific things that must be done before your race night.

  • You will need to sell all the horses in all the races and ensure that the owners give suitable names to all horses, jockeys and trainers.

  • You will need to organise an owner’s prize for each race.

  • You may also wish to make multiple copies of the programme with the names of the Owners, Horses, Jockeys, Trainers and Sponsors.

  • What Will I Have To Do On The Night?

  • You may wish to organise a local M.C.

  • You will have to organise TOTE ticket sellers and a Bookie. The number of these will depend on crowd size but a minimum of two should be provided.

  • A float of €50 to €60  in 1's & 2's should also be provided.

  • We provide all the TOTE tickets and work out the payout odds for you.
